Hello! We are a team of 4 Year 5 (JC1) students from Dunman High School spearheading Project Hermes in Youth for Causes (YFC) 2022. We have exciting initiatives planned, and we hope YOU can come join us on our journey to advocate for youth mental health :)

WHY YFC?

Adolescence is a pivotal period for youths to develop their sense of self identity and purpose. Yet, the issue of youth mental health has been on the rise, which can plague the minds of youths and impede their social, emotional and physical wellbeing, leading to further complications. As youths ourselves, we are committed to raising awareness about the importance of youth mental health among our peers so as to reduce stigma around this sensitive topic. Through this, we hope to inspire and encourage youths to prioritise their mental health and seek help if needed. Thus, we chose to embark on this YFC project surrounding the topic of youth mental health.

OUR AIM

  • Make sure no youth feels alone in the struggle against mental distress

  • Help everyone recognise the place and priority of mental wellness and healthy conversations surrounding mental health in their lives

  • Raise awareness and funds for SAMH’s cause and initiatives

WHY PROJECT HERMES?

Hermes is the messenger of the Greek gods, and we have a message to spread – the importance of youth mental health! Thus, we chose to undertake his name and role in this mission, and hope we do as good a job 😼The turtle is the sacred animal of Hermes, and symbolises healing and protection. This is why we chose the turtle as our logo 🐢💌

OUR SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCY

What does SAMH do?

Established in 1968, the Singapore Association for Mental Health (SAMH) is a non-profit and non-government social service organisation. They provide a comprehensive range of mental health services to improve the lives of persons with mental health issues through rehabilitation and reintegration. Their beneficiaries include youths, students and adults.

Vision

Mental Wellness for All

Mission

  • To improve the lives of persons with mental illness and provide support for their families

  • To promote acceptance and respect for persons with mental illness

  • To improve the mental resilience of our community

WHY SAMH?

SAMH is a well established organisation with a wide range of resources and services regarding mental health in Singapore. We chose to support SAMH since our project aim is closely aligned to SAMH’s vision and mission, and we hope to tap on SAMH’s resources to spread useful and beneficial information regarding mental health to youths in Singapore. Funds collected will also go to SAMH, which can help in further initiatives to bring mental wellness to all.
